cancer susceptibility and the future of genetic testing
Saturday, February 25th, 2006recently, we’ve encountered several problematic issues regarding genetic testing. Basically… we were told to stop testing people for differences because it’s an alternative form of "profiling" you know… as in racial profiling.
Okay peeps… let’s face it what we all strive to do (at least I ) is to improve the quality of life via medicine. But better yet, preventive medicine is more superior than medicine itself since it doesn’t involve trying to semi-poison (while getting drugged up) oneself in order to surve an illness. So what are people afraid of? invasion of privacy? um… like we can’t tell you’re black? white? yellow? if we can tell a person that there’s a high chance of him/her contracting esophageal squamous cell carcinoma… does he/she want to know? Well… I’ll say yes I do want to know because these problems are preventable! We can actually do something abou it (especially cancer where there is a large enviornmental component)
gosh… please stop being a bunch of ostriches and face the reality. The problem of genetic testing will come back and haunt us if we keep on avoiding it!
